The J/112E is ORC Israeli Champion!
May 27th, 2024 newsGal Cohen, skipper of the J/112E who won the ORC israeli championship he talks about the race and his boat.
“This championship is very intense and spread over two weekends (Friday and Saturday) , each Friday we had an offshore race of around 40 miles and on Saturdays – three windward/leeward races – in total we had 8 races in this championship – we won all of them except one. This year we had more competitors then normally since we had one team who brought a new FIRST 36 and another three teams with X35. We didn’t know what to expect in terms of the physical speed on the water against these strong competitors, also in terms of ORC rating (since we are “paying” rating to the x35).
We were very happy to see that in terms of speed on the water- we were the fastest in all condition and in every angles to the wind. One of the biggest surprise was that we were fast as the FIRST 36 on reaching in strong wind condition – this was the only situation that we expected they will be faster than us since this boat is marketed as a “planning boat”.
We are very proud to be the Israel champions, as we are the youngest team on the regatta. A unique aspect of our team is that, besides myself and another sailor, the rest of the team began sailing only a few years ago – and we are able to hold our own against professional teams and win regattas after intensive training.
About the J112e – We are so happy we made the decision the choose this boat to be our leading racing boat of the fleet. After racing with the J112 we understood that it’s the ultimate one for ORC racing – although it’s not an “extreme planning” boat, more important that it’s an hybrid boat that gives us the ability to lead the fleet in almost every condition.
Our next project will be the ORC Rhodes Cup in July, we are very excited and can’t wait to be on the starting line again.”
