Weaving in and out of the Channel Islands, aboard J for Two – EN & FR

July 27th, 2020 news

Weaving in and out of the Channel Islands, aboard J for Two – discover the story of Pierre & Louise, a young couple, aboard their J/105!

“As you know, it is not always necessary to go far to have a great holiday: you just need good weather, an interesting boat and a sailing area with lots of variety!

The program? A departure from Saint Vaast La Hougue (in the Cotentin), to the Channel Islands and the English pubs for a week!

August 2019

We are ready to set sail aboard J For Two. Provisions complete, the sails and engine have been checked, and bags stowed for when the boat heels. On the day we are leaving the weather is beautiful. There are 2 tide-races to go through: the Barfleur race and the Alderney race. J for Two sails easily downwind and we take full advantage of how comfortable the boat is. Designed for shorthanded use,  J For Two is very easy to handle under sail! After a day at sea, we arrive in Alderney where we anchor. We start the evening with an aperitif, and with a surprise guest!

Ideal weather for a holiday in the Channel Islands! A calm night, waking under a blue sky; we are heading for Guernsey. Used to weaving among the rocks, we are sailing down the Swinge channel where we decide to take time out to fish for mackerel. After a beautiful day fishing – and getting a suntan – we arrived at the end of the day in Guernsey. It is always a pleasure to moor in St Peter Port; this tiny harbor in the heart of the city is typically English and we feel truly abroad even after such a short trip. From the moment we arrive, we adapt ourselves to the “English Style”: English breakfast and fish and chips at sunset!

After two nights in Guernsey, we have to head homewards. Still very lucky with the weather, we sail back at full speed to Saint Vaast, downwind, in 25° C with a clear blue sky! The boat is sailing so fast that we regret not having more miles to sail. But – the holiday is over.

We are very lucky to have the chance to sail aboard the J/105. It is a simple but exceptional boat, whether doublehanded or fully crewed. J for Two behaves really well in a rough sea and it never bears away into a gybe even in 30 knots of wind. In our experience it’s a boat that inspires confidence and a feeling of security – one day, we got up to 22 knots!

It was my father who one day fell in love with this boat. He passed this passion on to me, which I share with my partner and which I would like to pass on to our future children!

J for Two is definitely not stopping any time soon!”

Nous sommes fin prêts pour partir naviguer à bord J For Two.
